The creator of a proposed documentary on dating is looking for a few older men and also members of the LGBTQ community on Cape Cod who are each willing to have a match made for them.
“I have no one to match my single women with because very few men over 40 have signed up,” said Felicia Romano, a former couples therapist turned filmmaker.
Romano said she recruited 70 year-round Cape Cod residents in less than a month, using fliers and posts on Instagram, Facebook and reddit. Anyone interested in the project can email her at whocouldlovethem@gmail.com or use @whocouldlovethem on Instagram.
“I am focusing on a few (members) of the pool who have signed up and sending them on dates.
I’m also kind of highlighting Cape Cod. There are really challenges to dating on Cape Cod,” she said.
One of the first challenges is finding suitable partners for older women.
“The problem is really that I’m going to have to exclude women over 60, which is too bad because I wanted it to span all ages,” Romano said.
While the documentary is still in pre-production, Romano said she also needs more gay people who are looking to meet someone.
Financing romance on a lonely peninsula
Romano is writing two grant requests to finance the Cape Cod dating documentary, as well as looking for sponsorships from local organizations. She is interviewing for a producer and director. She is also looking for some additional camera operators, but until the film is funded, everyone is working on a volunteer basis.
It essentially was just my passion project so far,” she said. “I’m excited to match make because i I feel like all of the hours I’ve spent working with couples will help me determine what people will be with each other.”
Romano, a Barnstable native with a master’s degree in counseling psychology, has worked at Couples Center of the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts and Beacon of Hope on Cape Cod.
Romano, 30, has not, herself, dated on Cape Cod.
“I’m married and I have a five-year-old. I met my husband in Ohio and brought him to Cape Cod.”
