Kim Soo Hyun Fan Union Announce Legal Action For ‘Defamation’ In Dating Scandal: Won’t Tolerate Personal Attacks

Kim Soo-Hyun’s fans have pledged to stand by their favourite actor as he remains embroiled in a dating scandal with late actress Kim Sae-Ron. The controversy, which errupted on March 10 refuses to die down. In the wake of that, the South Korean star’s fandom has taken a stand.

Kim Soo-Hyun’s fans take action

According Allkpop, the statement issued by the fan union said, “There has been an ongoing spread of malicious rumours and defamation targeting Kim Soo Hyun by individuals unrelated to him through online communities and social media. We are currently pursuing a criminal complaint.”

The legal representative attorney Yang Tae-Young stated that the fan union plans to file the complaint with Seoul Seongbuk Police Station this week, including defamation under Korea’s Information and Communications Network Act.

Domestic and international fans unite

According to the union, it is a joint action by both domestic and international fan communities. The union further pointed out that it has done extensive research and collected evidence including “malicious comments, manipulated images, and fabricated posts” that have been circulating online for past few months.

“This is a voluntary movement to protect the actor’s rights and preserve a healthy fan culture. We will not tolerate personal attacks or defamatory comments disguised as freedom of expression. No leniency will be shown,” it said.

Gold Medalist files legal complaint against defamation

This comes after Kim Soo-Hyun’s agency Gold Medalist filed a legal complaint on April 15. “Groundless speculation and unverified claims are being repeatedly posted online, damaging the artist’s reputation,” the company said. It confirmed of filing defamation and insult charges too.

Kim Soo-Hyun files lawsuit in damages

Soo-Hyun had recently filed a 12 billion KRW lawsuit in damages against the “aunt” of Kim Sae-Ron, her family and the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (HoverLab), that has been instrumental in leaking personal info including handwritten letter, private photos and more. It stated that Soo-Hyun was in a inappropriate relationship with Sae-Ron when she was 15. The two dated for 6 years, until her DUI incident when the Queen of Tears actor and Gold Medalist pressurised her financially leading to her death.
