CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There is a new billboard in south Charlotte that is shining a light on the importance of preventing intimate partner violence before it begins.
The billboard sits on South Tryon Street, near Yorkmont Road. It is sponsored by the Jamie Kimble Foundation for Courage. The goal is to to spark conversations about domestic violence among teens. Organizers say it happens more than we think. They believe putting a stop to the violence could save lives.
Sophey Cherry of Teens for Courage says, “Not many people realize how big of an issue teen dating violence and just domestic violence is in today’s society. It happens in many schools, it happens in our communities, and it happens when we least expect it.
Help is available if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence. You can call the National Domestic Violence hotline at 800-799-7233 or text START to 88788.
