Meryl Streep dating Martin Short? A sneak-peek into ‘year’ long romance of longtime Hollywood friends

Meryl Streep and Martin Short’s romance has been brewing for over a year now, media reports suggest. Their friendship evolved into a romantic relationship and the love birds have been quietly dating for “well over a year now,” sources informed Page Six.

‘Only Murders in the Building’ actors Meryl Streep and Martin Short were not looking for love, that’s when their emotions struck the chord, and they got along well only to be involved in a “completely unexpected” relationship. Dating rumours about the co-stars first sparked in early 2024 and in August last year they shocked fans when they were spotted holding hands.

Their on-screen charm was undeniable and, “Their friends and family, including their kids, absolutely approve of their relationship and think they’re adorable together,” the source added.

‘Meryl loves being around Martin’

According to an insider, 74-year-old Martin Short’s is a gentleman, who keeps 75-year-old Meryl laughing, and is an all-around positive person. “Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin,” the insider noted, adding, “She loves being around him.”

Drawing upon Meryl Streep’s past relationships, actor John Cazale was the first one to charm three Academy Awards winning Hollywood actress. John Cazaleis, who passed away in 1978, is best known for his role in The Godfather (1972).

Later, she got married to Don Gummer and ultimately separated in 2017 after four decades of marriage. Meanwhile, Martin Short’s was married to Nancy Dolman, who passed away in 2010 from ovarian cancer. Explaining how real-life friendship blossomed into something more, the insider said, “Meryl and Martin have bonded over the loss of their exes,” Page Six reported.

Elaborating on the future prospects of this relationship which was the “worst kept secret”, the insider said, “Meryl is still legally married to Don, but even if she were divorced, that’s just not something that she or Martin are interested in. They’re happy dating as boyfriend and girlfriend.”
