On Friday (March 7), Doechii sat down with First We Feast for a sizzling game of “Hot Ones Versus.” Created as a spicer twist on the classic game of truth or dare, Doechii, alongside her DJ and friend, Miss Milan, go head-to-head, revealing their dating red flags, childhood memories, and more. However, after Doechii shared one of her biggest flags — which is dating straight men — many of her followers were left scratching their heads, especially her male fanbase once a clip of the interview circulated online.
“I mean [it’s] like strike one,” Doechii laughs. “You’re a man, and you’re heterosexual?” Her ideology likely stems from a past relationship she shared when she found out her partner had been having a sexual relationship with another man, which she references in her hit, “Denial Is A River.” However, that didn’t stop the onslaught of criticism she received for her statement.
“I keep telling y’all her music is corny,” one person posted to X. Whereas one user suggested, “There are people who shouldn’t be famous [skull emoji].” Another person pleaded for more “positive, normal, and non-sexual” female rappers. He added, ” The Jews keep growing these weird btches on tress & pushing their trash messaging onto the youth. When are ppl gonna say enoughs enough?”
On the other hand, many women and men quickly defended the rapper. “It’s ‘love a Black woman from infinity to infinity’ until she’s open about her queerness and dating red flags,” an X user commented. Someone else wrote, “I mean, who cares? People are allowed to speak their minds. It doesn’t affect straight men one way or another unless you’re just uber sensitive about it.” Aside from this recent controversy, Doechii’s meteoric rise to fame continues. The rapper was recently at Paris Fashion Week, showcasing her eccentric, one-of-a-kind style.
