Ahead of International Women’s Day, Tinder has released Her New Dating Rulebook, shining a light on what young women in India expect from relationships and how they’re redefining the idea of modern dating. The new trends show that today, women focus more on respect and safety than on traditional gender roles. More importantly, emphasis has shifted away from physical attractiveness alone to appreciation for competency and overall co
The recent survey conducted by Tinder reveals 44% of women users want to meet new people, 38% want new experiences. This trend marks a departure from conventional dating norms, like the expectation that men should foot the bill, with only 23% of women still needing it. In its place, contemporary dating focuses more and more on mutual respect, shared values, and true connections.
Tinder unveils ‘Her New Dating Rulebook’: Key insights on women’s dating preferences
The survey results show that traditional gender roles in dating are being replaced by values that promote equality and respect. A significant 51% of young women now view modern chivalry as the act of keeping promises—such as showing up on time or following through on plans—rather than performing symbolic gestures like opening doors. Actually, 36% of women prefer to be given full attention on a date compared to having conventional old acts of chivalry done.
This shift in attitude is also reflected in relationship expectations. Whereas 31% of women simply expect respect to be automatically available for all genders, 36% expect a fully supportive partner to actively promote their career aspirations. This is a recent dating trend shift away from the days when gender roles determined who did what in relationships and towards a more equal relationship-oriented method based on mutual respect and common vision.
Tinder improves safety and authenticity for women with AI features
Safety is a top priority for young women users, with over half reporting that they would unmatch someone who sends them inappropriate messages. Tinder has moved to combat these issues with AI-driven features such as “Are You Sure?” and “Does This Bother You?” that prevent and report unwanted interactions, leaving users feeling safer in their online dating experience.
Aside from safety, women are also placing greater importance on authenticity on the site. The survey revealed that 44% of women value verified profiles, which guarantee that their matches are real. Moreover, 53% of women want clear, genuine profile photos, and over a third dismiss shirtless mirror selfies, which they find unappealing. A whopping 50% also value a post-date check-in as an indicator of genuine concern, which shows how much follow-through and thoughtfulness matter in contemporary dating.
Tinder users seek originality and compatibility in profiles
For most women on Tinder, the hope for deep connection is more than skin-deep. Nearly 47% of women think that incomplete profiles are a significant turn-off. They like bios that are rich and show genuine interests, rather than generic or shallow information. Multiple photos (37%) and shared lifestyles or interests (35%) are also more attractive.
Overused bios are least desired, with 41% of women preferring authenticity and originality to the use of clichés. This move is because more and more, people are focusing on compatibility, where things like values and common interests are more important than physical appearance or externals.
Tinder modern dating norms; reveals survey
Tinder’s current survey findings showcase the evolving social norms in the world of dating. Safety, respect, and sincere connections are now the foundation of today’s dating. With the eroding of old gender roles, relationships are evolving into more give-and-take, effort, and shared values. Young women need authenticity, connection, and a partner who also thinks equality and cares sincerely.
This change is a turning point in the way dating is understood and practiced, with women valuing personal preference and relationships based upon mutual respect and compatibility.
